Chinese Fire Bellied Newt LARVAE
Chinese Fire Bellied Newts (Cynops ortientalis) are small newts of around 6-10cm in length, characterised by bright red bellies. They are a coldwater species, native to much of China, and can be found breeding in still or slow-moving, fishless bodies of water. In captivity, these newts do very well in an aquarium at room temperature, heavily planted. Juveniles can be slightly tricky to rear, so I would not recommend purchasing these if you have never raised newts from larvae before (a more appropriate beginners’ species would be Alpine Newts). Dendrobaena earthworms are an excellent staple food, but can also be supplemented with various other live and frozen food items.
